A page of Frequently Asked Questions, this page will be updated regularly with new FAQs.  Got a question?  Use the Contact Us tab on the blog.

How do I log into e-resources off campus?
Always access an e-resource via Library Search.  Go to Library Search and sign in, search by the name of the resource in the search box e.g. Mintel.  Click to open the resource.  Each resource will look slightly different but will usually take you to a log-in page.  You need to look for something that says UK federation login or Shibboleth login or Institutional login. For further help see this page: http://westminsterbusinessstudies.blogspot.co.uk/p/e-resources-off-campus.html and watch this video which explains exactly how to log in off campus.

Where can I find Market Research information?
Market research databases: Mintel (UK research), Passport (Global Market Information Database), and Verdict (market reports for the retail industry).  Emerging Markets and Mediatel are useful for market research in those particular areas.  Find them on Library Search.

Where can I get company SWOT analyses?
Go to Business Source Complete via Library Search and click on publications in the top left-hand corner.  You can then search by company.  You can also try Passport which has a wide range of international company reports and profiles.

Where can I find company financial data such as turnover, profit and loss etc.?
For British companies the best place to go is FAME via Library Search you can then search for the company you need.  If you are looking for international companies you can try Factiva, click on the companies/markets tab.  Passport also provides international company reports. Company and Finanical data can also be found via Bloomberg and Datastream, although these resources can only be accessed from the dedicated terminals at Marylebone Library.

How do I use FAME?

I need media related information and data, where should I go?
Mediatel is a great source of media intelligence.  It covers all forms of media and includes a section on mobile phone activities.  Use it to find media information such as press circulation figures and advert rates, demographic reports, TV viewing figures and sponsorship information, online traffic data and revenue reports, radio audience figures, box office figures, and media trends and consumer behaviour.  Access Mediatel on and off campus via Library Search.

The current and back issues can be found at both Harrow and Marylebone libraries.  You can also get the electronic version (with back issues from 1922-) from Business Source Complete.  Search for Harvard Business Review via Library Search.
